The Wyoming State Bar released a statement on Mar. 31 encouraging law firms to adopt relational databases and related technologies to improve organization and efficiency.
The topic is relevant as many law offices continue to struggle with managing client information and business processes. The statement emphasizes that while paper files were once the norm, modern technology now offers better solutions for handling data.
According to the Wyoming State Bar, most law firms have already implemented case management or law practice management software, which helps organize client matters. However, fewer firms use customer relationship management (CRM) software for tracking leads. The statement suggests that combining these two types of platforms can help organize all contacts more effectively.
The bar also notes that accounting software functions as a relational database and recommends considering project management tools and document assembly software. These can be integrated with case management systems to further streamline operations in a legal office.
Lawyers who feel overwhelmed by relying on spreadsheets or document files are encouraged to consider these technological upgrades. “If you feel like your law firm is out of control, it’s probably because you’re relying on spreadsheets and document files to create some coherence. But relational databases take most of the work out of this type of organization,” the statement says.
The Wyoming State Bar offers free consulting services through Red Cave Law Firm Consulting for those interested in improving their technology platforms.
