The United States Attorney’s Office announced on March 23 that two individuals were sentenced for illegal re-entry of previously deported aliens in the District of Wyoming.
These cases highlight ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address violations of immigration law and ensure community safety through enforcement actions.
Victor Juan Escobar-Figueroa, a 38-year-old citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to time served plus up to ten days to allow for deportation after being found guilty of illegal re-entry. According to court documents, Escobar-Figueroa was stopped by the Wyoming Highway Patrol on December 4, 2025, near Burns. Troopers suspected he was in the country illegally and contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which confirmed he had been removed from the United States in May 2012 without permission to return. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse Naiman, with U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson imposing the sentence on March 16 in Cheyenne.
In a separate case, Isaias Hernandez-Zamora, age 42 from Tlaxcala, Mexico, received a sentence of time served for illegal re-entry and will be taken into ICE custody for deportation. He is also subject to one year of supervised release with a special condition prohibiting his unlawful return to the United States. Court records show Hernandez-Zamora was arrested by Teton County Sheriff’s Office for driving under the influence on November 18, 2022; ICE later determined he had been previously removed from the country in November 2007 and had not obtained legal permission to return before his subsequent arrest following a complaint filed in June 2024. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook prosecuted this case before Judge Johnson on March 17.
The United States Attorney’s Office represents the federal government in all litigation involving federal law violations within Wyoming and operates programs aimed at enhancing public safety such as Project Safe Childhood—which combats technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children—and Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative focused on fighting illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations.
The office also supports victims through its Victim Witness Program dedicated to treating victims with compassion and respect throughout legal proceedings.
