Shawn Richard Flett, a 38-year-old resident of Casper, Wyoming, has been sentenced to 34 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. This sentence is for the crime of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The incident dates back to October 2, 2024, when the Casper Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance involving Flett. During their investigation, officers discovered that Flett had concealed a firearm in his apartment despite being legally prohibited from possessing one due to his status as a convicted felon. Flett admitted that he received the firearm as payment for a debt.

The investigation was conducted by the Casper Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer prosecuted the case. After waiving indictment, Flett pleaded guilty on April 15. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on July 8 in Casper.
