Darin D. Smith has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the District of Wyoming. The oath was administered by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Kelly H. Rankin on Monday, following Smith’s appointment as interim U.S. Attorney by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
The United States Attorney’s Office in Wyoming is responsible for representing the federal government in nearly all litigation involving the United States within the district. This includes prosecuting violations of federal law, handling civil lawsuits involving the government, and pursuing actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers.
The office also participates in programs aimed at increasing public safety across Wyoming, such as Project Safe Childhood, Operation Take Back America, and a Victim Witness Program focused on ensuring fair treatment for victims of federal crimes and their families.
Smith was elected to represent District 6 in the Wyoming State Senate in November 2024. He has practiced law in Wyoming since 2000 and is the founding member of the Smith Group Law Office. In addition to his legal career, Smith has worked with major non-profit organizations including the Family Research Council.
Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming (1996) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law (2000). While at university, he received Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors as part of the wrestling team.
“I am honored to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming and thank Attorney General Bondi for placing her trust in me. It is a privilege to lead this great office, and I look forward to working with our federal, state, and local partners to protect the public and defend the interests of the United States,” said U.S. Attorney Darin D. Smith.
